
If you look at the chart above, which shows statistics from Statista, it shows that subscription streaming is up from 2.39 billion dollars in 2012 to 12.91 billion dollars in 2018. This proves my earlier point that there is a rapid increase in the amount of people switching from traditional services of consumption to online streaming services. However, services such as Video on Demand (VoD) has stayed pretty much flat since 2012. Consumers want the ability to subscribe to a service once and just have to renew the service to get access to the same content they are used to.

Sling TV subscribers have increased from 54 thousand in 2013 to 2417 thousand in 2018. This is a massive increase over a short amount of time. You see the opposing trend with basic pay cable TV. There is a decline in the amount of people subscribing to traditional media.
